The Wallflower: 2420 Main Street, Vancouver BC

So go ahead and mark The Wallflower down on your list of places you Absolutely Must Try while in Vancouver. Pictured above is my superb birthday dinner, the Best Biggest Juiciest Awesomest Portobello Burger I have ever tasted (and having been a vegetarian for over 20 years, trust me I have had my share of mushroom burgers)! In addition to having a separate vegan menu, The Wallflower also won me over because they let you choose to "half and half" the side salad and fries option if you can't make up your mind which way to go, so that way you are getting the best of both worlds. Ingenious!

My burger also came with a wonderful eggplant spread in lieu of mayo, and I think that might be what helped transform it into the remarkable burger that it was. So many terrific flavors! So huge and yet so tasty I ate the whole thing! And then they told me about their fantastic vegan chocolate cake, and with it being my birthday and everything, well I am sure you can imagine why I could not refuse, so my husband and I ordered a piece to share. The cake was almost like a brownie, so rich and chocolatey with a wonderful velvety chocolate sauce oozing and dripping all over the cake, paired with a fresh strawberry perfect for dipping.

Like The Naam, The Wallflower also has a really nice and comfortable atmosphere with a friendly and attentive staff. In addition to having a separate vegan menu, they also have a separate gluten-free menu, and they can even make some things both vegan and gluten-free. They are very gracious about accommodating different dietary needs, and they have come up with a fantastic menu which proves it can be done both tastefully and successfully.

The "Thunder Fries" at The Wallflower also come highly recommended, and knowing that the fries are not cooked with meat and in fact aren't even fried, makes it possible to indulge without any worries. It's nice to have the option of eating at an omni place where you don't have to worry about whether or not there will be something for everyone. The Walflower is definitely all-inclusive, a place where food can bring people together.
